PUCKHKEEPSIE Tuesday afternoon (today) saw the shooting of a youngster just after Poughkeepsie High School dismissed at 2:40 p.m. East of South White Street on Church Street was where the male victim was found. After returning to the high school premises, a student went to the police stationed in the school parking lot to report the occurrence and have them watched over the dismissal.

Police and firefighters from Poughkeepsie responded swiftly to the scene, found the victim on the pavement, and loaded him into an ambulance. His injuries were so serious that a local hospital had to admit him right away.

In order to look for the attacker, city police closed off the surrounding area to all vehicles and pedestrians with the help of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

One block from the victim’s discovery, the corner store clerk at South White Street and Fox Terrace reported that a young man brandishing a revolver had entered his establishment. In the store’s parking area, there was at least one bullet casing.

According to a witness who spoke with Mid-Hudson News, the armed attacker ran into the city and escaped eastward on the north side of Church Street.
