White Plains wins DRI $10 million award; Highland Falls and Village of Montgomery win NY Forward grants

WHITE STRIPE This year’s Hudson Valley winner of the state’s $10 million Mid-Hudson Downtown Revitalization Initiative award is the City of White Plains.

While visiting the Westchester County Seat on Thursday, Governor Kathy Hochul made the news.

According to her, a one-time financial infusion alters a community’s psyche as well as its physical surroundings and sense of self. People all across the state have expressed to me how much they care about them, especially our smaller communities that are occasionally ignored. It says, “You matter to us, you matter to this governor,” because I have been there, I have represented the cities, the small communities, and the most rural areas of our state.

In addition, the governor announced that the villages of Highland Falls and Montgomery would receive two $4.5 million New York Forward awards.

A large portion of Highland Falls was destroyed last summer when intense rains resulted in widespread floods that severely damaged houses and other structures and destroyed roads and other infrastructure.

The Village of Montgomery is a municipality that has managed to preserve its small-town atmosphere over time.

The funds to the two municipalities were hailed by Orange County Partnership President Maureen Halahan as a fantastic accomplishment for Highland Falls and Montgomery.
