Top Cereals Revealed: Highest Fiber, Protein, and Essential Nutrients

For many Americans, cereal is a mainstay for breakfast. The quick and simple dish was one of the top 10 breakfast items in America in 2019, according a OnePoll study done in association with Dave’s Killer Bread.

According to experts, Make It in January of last year, nutritionists strongly advise beginning your morning with foods like whole grain oats and protein smoothies that will keep you motivated all day. Cereal also does not fall into that group.

“I never recommend cereal to my patients to have for breakfast, simply because it’s processed. I don’t recommend anything that’s processed,” Dr. Nancy Rahnama, an internist and clinical nutritionist stated.

However, Rahnama conceded that cereal is a practical option when time is of the essence. If you just have time for one bowl of cereal, she suggested choosing ones that are low in sugar and high in fiber.

According to a recent analysis, the following list of cereals is high in nutrients like fiber and protein and low in added sugar.

Highest nutritious cereals with the least amount of added sugar

In order to evaluate the contents of the top 15 cereals in America, collaborated with nutrition expert Lauryna Nelkine, “taking into account their sales volumes and ratings on major American retailing platforms,” according to the research.

These are the cereals with the least amount of added sugar and the highest concentration of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to support health.

  • Highest dietary fiber content: Nine grams of fiber per serving of post-raisin bran
  • Special K Protein has the highest protein content, with 7 grams per serving.
  • Highest in vitamin D and calcium: 200 milligrams of calcium and 4 micrograms of vitamin D are included in Multi Grain Cheerios.
  • The least amount of added sugar: Each serving of Special K Protein, Corn Chex, and Corn Flakes contains 4 grams of sugar.

With an average of 12 grams of added sugar per serving, these cereals stand out for having the most added sugar:
