There are more wealthy cities in the world than any other. Tokyo, London, and Hong Kong are close behind. A study by Henley & Partners that looked at the number of high-net-worth people living in each city found that New York City had the most millionaires. Three hundred and forty thousand millionaires live in New York City.
CEO of Henley & Partners, Juerg Steffen, said in a statement, “Residence by investment” gives people the chance to live, work, study, and spend in places like New York, London, Singapore, Sydney, and Hong Kong that are known as international wealthy hubs. “For private clients, being able to move themselves, their families, or their businesses to a better city or having the choice of several homes around the world is becoming an increasingly important part of international wealth and legacy planning.”
With 290,300 millionaires, Tokyo was the second largest city after New York City. The Bay Area in California came in third with 285,000 millionaires, followed by London with 258,000 millionaires and Singapore with 240,100 millionaires. It had 205,400 millionaires, which put it at No. 6 on the list. Chicago, with 124,000 millionaires, was No. 11 on the list.
With 63 billionaires, the Bay Area had the most super-rich people. New York City came in second with 58, and Beijing came in third with 43. But just because a city is pricey doesn’t mean you can’t find deals and things to do that won’t break the bank. In New York, for example, you can find cheap hotels and do free things like take the Staten Island Ferry, watch birds in Central Park, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, or relax on one of the city’s free public beaches.
Plus, tourists can walk or ride their bikes across the famous Golden Gate Bridge, have lunch in Alamo Square Park (known for “Full House”), and see the Mission Murals all for free or very little cost.
