Oregon is a beautiful state known for its Douglas fir trees. Its beauty can be seen in its empty dunes, cute waterfront towns, and thick woods. Because Oregon has such a varied environment, fall is like a symphony of Maple, Dogwood, Oak, Birch, Aspen, and Cottonwood trees. Oregon has all the bright fall colors you can think of when you think of leaves changing colors. Even though the whole state is beautiful, the fall colors are most spectacular in the northwest, in towns like Astoria and Silverton. This makes Oregon the perfect place for leaf-peepers, even those coming from Washington, which is close by.
1. Joseph
Joseph is the first small town on this ultimate list of fall vacation spots. This nature-focused community is on almost every list of Oregon’s most beautiful places. Some say the town’s beauty comes from the snow-capped mountains and acres of lush greenery that surround it, while others say they fell in love with the city because it’s an adventurer’s dream. Joseph, Oregon, is at the base of the Wallowa Mountains and has a lot of farms. It also has events like the Wallowa County Farmers’ Market and Main Street that help local businesses. Also, because Joseph is so far from big towns and has a lot of land, it is one of the least crowded places to see the fall foliage.
2. Sisters
The Oregon town of Sisters is now on the list of nature-focused places to enjoy the fall colors. There are over 260 miles of hiking trails in this small town, and there are also lots of fun neighborhood events. Food, crafts, arts, and more from around the Sisters area are shown off at the Fall Street Festival. Sister is a great place to visit in Oregon because it is close to the Cascade Mountains. The small town is also close to several beautiful waterfalls that tourists can discover during their stay.
For example, Proxy Falls is 28 mi west on Highway 242, and Obsidian Falls is in the middle of the town’s nature and can be reached by hiking 12 mi from the Obsidian Trailhead. Take a walk through Sisters’ central area to see the architecture with a Western theme and get a sense of the close-knit community of friendly locals and small family businesses. Fans say that the South Sister Trail, the Sahalie Trail in the Willamette National Forest, and the Tam McArthur Rim Trail in the Deschutes National Forest are three of the best trails in the area.
3. Ashland
Ashland is right at the base of the Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges, making it even closer to the Cascade Mountains than Sisters. The rough mountain town has a lot to offer, from scenic cruises to fall-themed activities for the whole family for Halloween. Ashland is known for its large farms and wineries, which make leaf-peeping in the mountains even more fun. It’s one of the best places in Oregon to see fall colors because there are so many hiking trails.
Lithia Park, on the other hand, is a well-known place in the area to enjoy the change of seasons. Ashland’s center park has a Japanese Garden, two duck ponds, and other fun things to do. The Ashland Library, ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, and Schneider Museum of Art are all fun places to learn about the town’s past while enjoying the beautiful nature.
