FBI statistics show that Portland is not even close to being one of the most dangerous cities in the country, despite a lot of bad press. A new study that looks at FBI crime data names the safest and most dangerous cities in the United States in an article that came out Tuesday in the well-known business magazine Forbes.
Statistics show that violent crime rates went down across the United States last year, but since the new year, there have been more mass killings, which has made many Americans even more worried about crime.
This year’s ranking was made by looking at the FBI’s 2021 crime data. These include violent crimes like murder, rape, and serious assault, as well as property crimes like home burglaries and car theft. The company looked at 263 towns with more than 100,000 people.
From what MoneyGeek has found, most of the country’s most dangerous towns are in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country. St. Louis, Missouri, is at the top of the list, followed by Mobile and Birmingham in Alabama. The results, which may come as a surprise to some, don’t show any big places that are often thought to be dangerous, like Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, or Portland.

The city of Portland did not make either the “most dangerous” or “safest cities” lists. In its poll, MoneyGeek chose the safest big cities in the United States with more than 300,000 people. This year, Honolulu was named the best big city.
MoneyGeek’s poll also included a list of the safest towns in the United States with more than 100,000 people. Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, was ranked as the safest place on this list. After that came to Sunnyvale, California, and then West Covina, California. The list of safest places included six cities in California, and three of the cities with more than 300,000 people were also in California.
