Huge Number of Visitors
In the middle of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains is the beautiful city of Asheville. It took a lot of work for Asheville to sell itself as a tourist spot. A huge 31% of American adults had seen an Explore Ashville ad by 2018. Because of this, over 12 million people visit Asheville every year.
The whole city seems like it was made just for these tourists. Its downtown area is cool and unique, with more than 30 modern art shops, great farm-to-fork restaurants, and a lively live music scene.
With mountains in the background, not only are the views stunning, but the area is also great for tourists looking for outdoor activities. Overtourism can destroy a city, but Asheville is a great example of a place where having a lot of visitors is seen as a good thing. They made the place better.
Adventures
People know Asheville as a great spot to enjoy nature. Here, there are a lot of outdoor activities you can do. You can drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, walk along the Appalachian Trail, and check out waterfalls.
Do some of these fun things: hiking, tubing, kayaking, ziplining, or river rafting. The Biltmore estate is in Asheville. It is the biggest house in the United States. The Omni Grove Park Inn and Thomas Wolfe’s home are two other important sites in the area.
Beer City
Another name for Asheville is the “Napa Valley of Beer.” It has also been named the Best Beer City USA. It got this title for the first time in 2009 and has kept it every year since! You can try hundreds of locally made beers from more than 50 western North Carolina mountain breweries. If you like beer, you’ll be too happy to choose.
Asheville’s center has a lot of breweries. The popular South Slope Brewing District walking tour lets you see many of them on foot. Highland Brewing stands out because it is the oldest brewery in Asheville and makes more than 50,000 barrels of beer every year. Because there are so many breweries and beer choices in Asheville, the city has a lively nightlife scene. This makes it a great place to go out and party after a long day of outdoor activities.
A Year-Round Place
Asheville is a place to visit all year. People love going there from March to May and again from September to early November when the weather is mild enough for outdoor activities. During these times, people come to see the spring flowers and fall leaves.
The cool water of the French Broad River is a great way to cool off in the summer. A lot of people also like to boat and do other water sports here. This is also the time of year for concerts and festivals in Asheville. Most people go to the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival.
Winter is the city’s slow season, but November through January is still a great time to visit, especially if you like to ski. With the snow on top, Asheville looks beautiful. If you’re looking for a place to go for the holidays, the city also has a lot of fun events.
