Suspect indicted for 2003 murder of Megan McDonald

GOSHEN On Monday, Edward Holley, 43, was charged with Megan McDonald’s 2003 murder. When the Orange County District Attorney failed to get an indictment within the required six days following Holley’s initial arrest by the state police in 2023, the state police released him from custody a few days later. A special prosecutor was then appointed after the DA withdrew from further proceedings, citing a conflict of interest.

Judge James McCarty appointed Julia Cornachio as special district attorney. Cornachio has over thirty years of experience as a prosecutor and has handled multiple homicide cases in the Bronx and Westchester DA’s office. Laura Murphy, Esq., a seasoned former prosecutor with extensive experience handling homicide cases and a former head of the Westchester DA’s Office Cold Case Bureau, assists her.

An Orange County Grand Jury has indicted Holley, the victim McDonald’s ex-boyfriend, on a murder charge, Cornachio said on Monday. If found guilty of the claim that he killed McDonald with a blowtorch, he might spend up to 25 years behind bars.

Judge Hyun Chin Kim of Orange County Court is set to arraign Holley on Friday.
