Sullivan County tops region in new jobs

ALBANY In December 2023, there were 4.3% more new employment in Sullivan County than there were in the same month the previous year.

The State Labor Department also reported that as of December 2023, there were 809,800 private sector jobs in the region, an increase of 6,100, or 0.8 percent.

Greene County witnessed a 2.1 percent rise in jobs, while the Dutchess-Putnam-Metropolitan Division saw a 2.9 percent gain.

Delaware County had 1.2 percent more employment, and Ulster County had 1.3 percent more.

While Columbia County experienced no increase, the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area got just 0.2 percent more new jobs.

Private health and education services (+11,100), leisure and hospitality (+6,400), and other services (+700) saw the biggest increases in employment.

Construction, mining, and logging lost 4,500 jobs; trade, transportation, and utilities lost 4,300 jobs; professional and business services lost 1,900 jobs; financial activities lost 500 jobs; manufacturing lost 500 jobs; and information lost 400 jobs.
