Sullivan County tops region in job growth

ALBANY According to data from the State Labor Department, Sullivan County had a 4.6 percent increase in employment during the course of the year that ended in April.

Ulster County, with a 2.2% increase in jobs, trailed far behind.

Growth in Greene County was 1.0 percent, while the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division experienced 1.3 percent growth.

There was growth of 0.9 percent in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area.

Jobs in Columbia County decreased by 0.6%, while jobs in Delaware County decreased by 1.9%.

The number of private sector jobs in the Hudson Valley increased by 9,300, or 1.2 percent, to 813,800 over the course of the year that ended in April.

Profits were concentrated in the following areas: financial activities (+900), leisure and hospitality (+2,400), private health and education (+9,800), and other services (+400).

The industries with the largest employment losses were manufacturing (-500), information (-300), trade, transportation, and utilities (-1,100), and professional and business services (-2,200).
