GOSHEN A $60,000 state funding will be given to Orange County so that they can operate free buses in the City of Middletown for a few months.
The project is comparable to one that was offered in the City of Newburgh a year prior, according to County Planning Commissioner Alan Sorensen.
We hope to be able to offer free bus fares for approximately five months on all fixed routes in the City of Middletown, including the paratransit, with the $60,000, he stated. We observed an uptick in ridership in Newburgh the previous year when we were able to offer free fares, and we’ll be monitoring that going ahead.
According to Sorensen, there was a rise in ridership in Newburgh when fares were reinstated, compared to earlier paid service levels.
