SBA offers federal assistance to those affected by July 2023 flooding

ALBANY Residents and companies affected by the summer flooding in Orange and surrounding counties can now apply for federal help through the Small Business Administration. This is available starting in 2023. In order to facilitate recovery following the catastrophic weather event that occurred on July 9–10, 2023, which caused major damage to homes and businesses, the SBA will offer low-interest loans.

Executive Steven Neuhaus of Orange County stated that while the loans are good, they do not provide the necessary assistance.

In summary, loans are an excellent option. He stated that the federal government is not providing the entire relief that the people and companies need. Therefore, while it’s better than nothing, it falls far short of what the federal government ought to be providing to those affected by the flooding.

Grant requests from individuals who experienced catastrophic property damage in Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, and Rockland have been denied by FEMA; these areas are now qualified for SBA loans.
