RUPCO opens Ulster County Section 8 waitlist for the homeless

As the local administrator for New York State Homes and Community Renewal, KINGSTON RUPCO will create a Section 8 waiting list for Ulster County Housing Choice Vouchers that is only open to the homeless. The period of the wait list’s availability is January 30 to February 13.

Families with low or modest incomes can pick and lease inexpensive, privately owned rental housing with the help of the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Rent for participants is restricted at 30–40% of their adjusted monthly income; the remaining amount is covered by a subsidy.

Applications are available for download at www.rupco.org or in person at RUPCO’s headquarters, located at 289 Fair Street in Kingston, starting on January 30.

The order on the waitlist will be decided by drawing lots from among the eligible applications that have been submitted. By March 31, applicants will get a written letter verifying their eligibility and informing them if their names have been put to the waitlist. Should they be chosen, candidates must spend the first twelve months of their Housing Choice Voucher living in Ulster County.

Ulster and Greene counties are under the program’s administration, RUPCO.
