Running from Kentucky State Police, man apprehended for narcotics trafficking

Kentucky State Police (KYSP) apprehended a guy on Thursday after he attempted to flee a traffic stop.

According to a Kentucky State Police statement, Benjamin Layne attempted to flee a traffic stop initiated by troopers in Boyd County. As officers pursued him, Layne was seen “discarding bags of narcotics” out the driver’s side window, “which were later recovered.”

The suspect’s vehicle was discovered behind the Cannonsburg Walmart after authorities called off the pursuit due to increasing risk from high traffic and speeds. They eventually formed a perimeter and captured Layne in a wooded location.

Layne was arrested for speeding, reckless driving, wanton endangerment, DUI, tampering with physical evidence, trafficking in a controlled substance (meth and heroin), running or evading police, and failing to appear on a warrant. He was arrested and taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.

Boyd County EMS provided assistance, and the situation is currently being investigated.
