Garvey, a resident of New City in Rockland County, indicated to police that he was returning home from a political event. Troopers, in their report, say Garvey failed the field sobriety tests by demonstrating slurred speech and lack of balance. Troopers also noted that Garvey s eyes were bloodshot. After failing the tests, he was transported to the trooper barracks where he refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test.
Mid-Hudson News was aware of a campaign fundraiser for Republican Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) that was taking place at 2:30 p.m. on December 3, 2023. The campaign event was at the Bronxville home of Trump White House Senior Advisor Tony Sayegh and included an appearance by House Speaker Mike Johnson, according to a Rockland Democratic Committee member.
Garvey, the 10-year leader of the Rockland Republicans, was arraigned in the Village of Elmsford Justice Court in January at which time his driver s license was suspended for refusing the breathalyzer test.
