Quick response by California officer prevents harm to 3-year-old in distressing incident

According to police in California, a 35-year-old woman was shot on Sunday after pointing a gun at a 3-year-old and threatening to shoot the youngster.

Officers were called at 8 a.m. Sunday to report a lady holding a gun to a small boy’s head. The event happened in the 200 block of East 21st Street in San Bernardino.

According to a news release, when officers got on the scene, the suspect climbed onto the balcony of the flat and pointed a weapon at one of the officers. She then went back into the flat and locked the door behind her.

According to the news release, the reporting individual, the child’s grandfather, told police that the woman had previously fired the pistol inside the residence and that the youngster was not safe inside.

A child is in imminent danger

Officers were pushed into the house by kicking open the door. Once entering, the officers noticed the woman standing on a bed in the living room, pointing a gun at the child, who was sitting directly beneath her.

“The child was crying and was in immediate danger of being shot at that moment,” according to the news release.

Police fired multiple shots at the woman in an attempt to save the child’s life. Despite her injuries, the woman was able to keep control of the weapon. Officers told her to drop the firearm, but she continued to point it at the child. A cop fired another shot at the woman.

Officers were able to safely remove the boy from the apartment and bring him to family members outside. Darvet Brown was identified as the woman who died at the scene.

She is not linked to the child, according to police, and the reason for her conduct is unknown. The incident is still being investigated.
