Monticello incumbents can still get on the ballot

MONTICELLLO Three current Monticello Village Board members, including Mayor George Nikolados, still have the chance to compete for office despite the fact that their petitions to be included on the ballot for reelection in March were rejected.

The Sullivan County Board of Elections declared the Democratic Party’s petitions for mayor and trustees Michael Banks and Carmen Rue invalid; however, they are eligible to run as independents if they submit fresh petitions between February 6 and February 13 that have at least 75 signatures, according to Village Clerk Janine Gandy.

In the event that Nikolados obtains an independent line, trustee Rochelle Massey has also submitted petitions to run for mayor on the Democratic ticket. The two will compete in the village election on March 19.
