There is no fun in being overweight, and the city of Jackson has a big problem with it. Many people who live in Jackson are having a terrible time every day because of a worrying trend in the capital city.
Lionel Fraser Jr. works for Central Mississippi Health Services in Jackson as a doctor. He thinks it’s scary that Jackson is ranked fifth in the US for having the most overweight and fat people.
“This study is really a follow-up to one that the same author did in November. After a few months, he uses the same method for cities, and in November, he uses it for states. “That study put Mississippi in second place,” he said.
WalletHub looked at 100 of the most populous cities and compared them.
It ranked them based on 19 important signs of weight-related issues. What percentage of people are not physically active? What are the expected obesity rates by 2030? How easy is it to get healthy food?
In Jackson, Dr. Fraser said, “we have lost a number of major food resources where better types of fruits and vegetables would have been available, and they are no longer easy to come by and easy to get to.” “As you look at activities, are there parks and recreation centers that people from all walks of life can use and enjoy?” Are they simple to get to, and do people usually use these resources?”
He says that being overweight has a lot of bad effects on health.
“That’s the first thing that comes to mind since I talked about diabetes.” Also, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high body fats are all present at the same time. “Being overweight hurts a lot of different areas, and it doesn’t help any of them,” Dr. Fraser said.
One more thing that Dr. Frasier says is that African Americans have some of the highest rates of obesity in the US compared to other groups. He said, “I’m sure it comes down to genes, family history, what we inherit, and what we have learned to enjoy and eat.” Stats and studies can change, though.
Dr. Frasier says that the weight you got didn’t happen overnight and that there is no magic way to lose weight that will make it go away overnight.
“You have to decide to change how you act.” What is the first thing that can be changed about something? Dr. Fraser said, “Diet, what we eat, and how we cook food.” “Beans that you peel and a moderate amount of that type of fruit and vegetable.” Pears, spinach, and greens are also good.
Moving around and how busy we are is the second thing. As an example, Walk. It is easy and doesn’t cost much. These things are all important. Talk to your doctor or nurse if you have questions or worries about your weight or if you want to take medicine to lose weight.
