POUGHKEEPSIE – At the yearly Memorial Day service at Soldiers Memorial Fountain in Poughkeepsie, veterans, including Adjutant Kevin Hathorn and Commander Nathan Nate the Great Grant of American Legion Post 37, united with local residents, government officials, and firemen.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Yvonne Flowers spoke at the well-attended ceremony, and Congressman Pat Ryan, State Senator Rob Rolison, and Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson also attended. On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the soldiers and sailors who gave their lives defending our nation. Mayor Flowers stated, “Today we recognize the gravity of the sacrifices made by our service members and the profound impact they have had on our nation’s history and our lives.” We must unite to commemorate and honor those who have lost their lives on our nation’s and other countries’ battlefields, in times of peace as well as in big and little conflicts.

During the ceremony, the Poughkeepsie High School Air Force JROTC provided color guard and a student sang the national anthem.

Commander Grant concluded the memorial service with a bugle rendition of Taps.
