Massive pickup truck rally catches town off guard

WALLKILL TOWN At the Orange County Fairgrounds this past weekend, there was a diesel pickup truck rally, which caused traffic in and around the Town of Wallkill to come to a complete stop.

Owners of the fairgrounds were approached on Monday by Town Supervisor George Serrano and other town officials, who informed them that when future events of that size are planned, they must be given advance notice.

They are aware that in order to ensure that it doesn’t happen again, they must alert not only the town but also other law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services. Events are beneficial to the community because they draw visitors, but they must also be planned carefully to avoid having an adverse effect on the locals, he said.

The highways in and surrounding Wallkill came to a complete stop, and town officials were not informed in advance. Moving from one end of the town to the other takes hours.
