HEIGHTCREST According to Ramapo Town Police on Wednesday night, a 53-year-old Hillcrest man is suspected of shooting and killing a 56-year-old lady before escaping to Connecticut and ending his own life.

When police first arrived on the scene at 9 a.m. at Inwood Drive in Hillcrest in response to a complaint of gunfire, they discovered the woman lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

After being taken to the hospital, she was declared dead.

After conducting an investigation, it was discovered that Lawrence Byrd, the culprit, had escaped to Connecticut. Stamford Police helped track him down there. Authorities claim he committed suicide.

Police stated that this was an isolated event and that there is no public threat, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The Rockland County Intel Center, New York State Police, Norwalk Police, Stamford Police, and the offices of the district attorney and sheriff of Rockland County all provided support to Ramapo Police.
