When state police tried to pull over a car suspected of being stolen on I-84 on Wednesday night shortly after 5:00 p.m., the driver decided to take off running and head west on the highway. After a chase that ended with the operator in police custody in the City of Newburgh, troopers attempted to halt the vehicle on I-84 westbound close to the Ludingtonville Road exit.
Since the car had been reported stolen from the Brewster area, the troopers had attempted to halt it at first.
Numerous agencies, including Fishkill and City of Newburgh police, provided support to the state police. Officials from the state police gave the order to end the pursuit while it was passing through Newburgh. Simultaneously, the car was stopped near Carpenter Avenue and Van Ness Street, and the driver was trying to escape on foot. A few moments later, he was captured and placed under arrest.
