‘He’s disgusting’: Chris Christie on Trump’s campaign statements

During a recent campaign speech, Republican presidential candidate and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie criticized former President Donald Trump for his comments on immigrants.

“He’s disgusting,” Christie declared Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “What he’s doing is dog-whistling to Americans who feel absolutely under stress and strain from the economy and from the conflicts around the world.”

Trump stated during a rally in New Hampshire on Saturday that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country.”

“All over the world, they’ve poisoned mental institutions and prisons.” “They’re coming into our country from Africa and Asia, not just from South America or the three or four countries that we’re thinking about,” Trump said.

Trump, Christie said on Sunday, is “dog whistling to blame” the country’s issues on “people who don’t look like us.”

On Sunday, the former New Jersey governor, the most ardent critic of Trump in the GOP presidential race for 2024, also attacked another of his competitors, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Christie honed in on Haley, repeatedly declaring Trump the right president at the right moment, despite her criticism.

“Nikki Haley should be ashamed of herself, and she is a contributing factor to the problem.” Because she is facilitating him, she’s enabling him by telling others it’s fine.” Christie explained. “Let me be really clear. I’m running to let people know it’s not OK. It is not acceptable for an American president to utter such things.”

Christie also chastised Trump on Sunday for his four felony indictments and for quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent campaign event. If Trump is elected as the Republican nominee, he will be unable to defeat President Joe Biden in the general election in 2024.

“With a convicted felon, we can’t beat Joe Biden.” We can’t beat Joe Biden with someone who talks like that about immigrants. And we can’t beat Joe Biden with someone who has a cozy relationship with Vladimir Putin.”
