GOSHEN Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, two firefighters fighting a raging house fire at 5 Middle Street in Goshen had a near-miss.
After the fire spread from the living room to the second level, Orange County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali reported seeing smoke and flames rising from the residence.
According to Goshen Fire Chief Peter Easop, a mayday call was made.
Just after the building’s entrance, he added, two firefighters fell from the first level through the floor and into the basement.
At the site, they received treatment and were saved.
An inquiry is underway to find the fire’s cause. About eighty firemen from different departments battled the fire.
