Free Tax-Preparation Service

NYC & POUGHKEEPSIE – Through the Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition, IRS-certified volunteers from the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide are once again offering free tax preparation. 5,817 people in the counties of Putnam, Dutchess, and Orange got assistance with tax preparation and filing last year.

This program, which is administered by volunteers, is intended for families and individuals with low to moderate incomes. All eligible inhabitants in the area, regardless of age, are welcome to use the tax service. Age limitations do not apply, and membership in AARP is not necessary.

Call 1-800-899-1479 or 2-1-1 (United Way’s Hudson Valley Helpline) between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to make an appointment. We take appointments starting in February and ending in mid-April.

There are fourteen free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide locations in Dutchess County, which are situated in Fishkill, Wappinger Falls, Hopewell Junction, Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, and Dover Plains. The Tivoli Library will have a new tax location this year.

Chester, Cornwall, Goshen, Greenwood Lake, Middletown, Monroe, Montgomery, Newburgh, New Windsor, Pine Bush, Port Jervis, Walden, Warwick, and Washingtonville are the 15 locations of the free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide stations in Orange County. The Tax-Aide volunteers help in Putnam County from three different sites.

According to Jeannie Montano, President and CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, “we know that people in our community are working hard but finding it hard to survive.” Numerous individuals mentioned in the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Report by United Way of New York are among them. They are our pals. They are the ones that smile and assist us on a daily basis in dental offices, day care facilities, restaurants, and other establishments. Their ability to survive on a daily basis is genuinely dependent on the returns they receive. We are pleased to provide funds from the United Way Community Fund to the Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition and its partner organizations. Our objective is to assist citizens of the Mid-Hudson Valley in achieving financial security, and this program is a fantastic illustration of how we can all work together to achieve this goal.
