Feds funds one-third of rehab of Dashville hydroelectric plant

ESOPUS For the purpose of replacing the turbines and rehabilitating the generators in units one and two of the Dashville Hydroelectric Plant in the Town of Esopus, Central Hudson Gas and Electric has been granted a $3.4 million grant by the US Department of Energy.

According to utility company spokesman Joseph Jenkins, the Wallkill River facility needs the upgrades.

This is significant because, at a time when the cost of energy supplies is still unstable, the upgrades enable this hydroelectric facility to produce up to 5.3 megawatts of emission-free electricity more effectively.
