FBI Offers $10K Reward for Jersey City Missing Woman Since 2019

The FBI has put up a $10,000 prize for information about a Jersey City woman who hasn’t been seen or heard from since 2019. On Thursday, the FBI Newark Field Office and the Jersey City Police Department said they are still asking for help from the public to find Mayushi Bhagat.

Bhagat was learning at the New York Institute of Technology when she went missing. She was 24 years old at the time, but she would be 29 today. Police say she was last seen leaving her Jersey City apartment on April 29, 2019, while wearing bright sleep pants and a black T-shirt.

Officials said that the $10,000 prize would be given for information that led to Bhagat’s “location or recovery.” Police said that Bhagat’s family reported her missing on May 1, 2019, after not hearing from her for two days. “On July 12, 1994, Mayushi was born in India. She had an F1 student visa to be in the U.S. Police say she has friends in South Plainfield, the FBI said in a case brief.

A 2019 story in the Times of India says that Bhagat went to the U.S. to work as an electrical and electronics engineer after graduating from the Vadodara Institute of Engineering in Kotambi, India. It is said that she first went to the University of New Hampshire and then switched to the New York Institute of Technology.

The Times of India reported that Bhagat had told her folks she would be back in Jersey City on May 3, 2019. Bhagat’s GoFundMe page says that she is responsible, kind, smart, and “very capable.”

The family has had to spend a lot of money and mental energy in the search for Mayushi. There have been big legal and investigation fees. A note on the fundraiser page, which seems to have been last updated in December 2019, says, “We are raising money to help Mayushi’s family through these hard times.”

On Sunday, a representative from the FBI’s Newark Field Office could not be called right away for comment. The police say Bhagat also goes by the names Mayushi Vikas Bhagat and Mayusi Vikas Bhagat. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, has brown eyes and black hair, weighs 150 to 160 pounds, and has an average build.
