Easter Sunday fire in Walden causes major damage

Walden After firemen from several departments worked for about an hour to put out the fire on Walnut Street in Walden on Easter morning, the cause of the incident is currently being investigated. The house sustained substantial damage from the two-alarm fire that broke out around 6:30 in the morning, but no one was hurt.

When Walden Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene Sunday morning, they discovered a two-and-a-half-story home on Walnut Street completely engulfed in flames. In order to help contain the fire, a second alarm was raised, bringing equipment and personnel from the fire departments of Coldenham, Newburgh, Pine Bush, Wallkill, and Orange Lake to the scene.

It took approximately 30 minutes to get the bulk of the fire knocked down and just under an hour to get it fully extinguished.
Orange County fire officials were at the scene including two fire investigators. An Orange County Sheriff s Office deputy and his arson-trained K9 were also at the scene.
