Driver of school bus removes NFA student due to overcrowding

NEW BURGH Matthew Coolidge, Jr., a 14-year-old NFA Main student in Newburgh, is the son of Trisha Crumpler, who is furious over his treatment on the school bus on Thursday morning as he heads to classes.

The female driver, who said she would pick up her son after dropping off the busload of pupils at their school, advised her son to get off the bus at Second and Liberty streets, indicating that it appeared to be overcrowded.

According to his mother, Matthew, who lives on the opposite side of town, was afraid. Upon being dropped off at the curb, he contacted his grandfather, who came to retrieve him.

Crumpler contacted Gallagher Bus Company, the district’s transportation provider, in the interim, and after reviewing a video footage of the incident, it was determined what had actually happened.

Later that day, Crumpler lodged a complaint with the police.

Days prior to this event, a student on a different Newburgh bus had been slashed by two young people who had boarded the vehicle and attacked him.
