County jail inmate caught with an edged weapon

PUCKHKEEPSIE Due to a weapons charge, a prisoner at the Dutchess County Jail has been taken into custody. On January 12, 2024, following an investigation by the law enforcement and prisons divisions of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, fifty-four-year-old Joseph Boccard of Poughkeepsie was taken into custody.

Now, Boccard—who is still being held at the jail—is being charged with having illegal goods in the form of an edged weapon. Captain John Watterson of the Sheriff’s Department said that he was accused of the offense of encouraging prison contraband.

On January 25, Boccard is scheduled to appear in City of Poughkeepsie Court to face the new charge. After being incarcerated in the Dutchess County Jail since March 2023, he is still there.
