Childcare #1 concern among employers and employees

MID-HUDSON It is becoming more challenging for businesses to hire staff members and for job seekers to find and keep positions in the Mid-Hudson Valley due to the loss of over thirty percent of its licensed childcare providers.

According to a recently published research by Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, finding appropriate daycare is becoming more and more challenging.

According to Pattern President Adam Bosch, this is the main issue with the labor market.

According to data and studies, childcare in the Hudson Valley is becoming more scarce, more expensive, and more vulnerable to changes in the economy, population, and regulations, he added. The Hudson Valley has lost 27% of its licensed childcare providers in the last 15 years alone; the state has lost 22%, meaning that the Hudson Valley has lost a slightly larger percentage.

The issue affects communities in both rural and urban areas. Two other licensed agencies in the area have shuttered in the last several weeks: Sullivan County’s Head Start and Wappingers Falls’ privately run program.
