Child gets probation, must write 2-page Kobe Bryant paper following urinating arrest

A child who was caught for public urination by Senatobia Police officers was sentenced to three months probation and had to write a two-page paper about Kobe Bryant.

The child’s detention on August 10 sparked outrage even within the police department, leading to the dismissal of an officer who had detained the boy. The youngster, who was 10 at the time, urinated behind his mother’s car while she was inside an attorney’s office, according to his mother, Latonya Eason.

The first officer who saw her son was about to let him go with a warning, according to Eason, but he was tossed in the back of a patrol cruiser and transported to jail after a lieutenant arrived.

“I think it’s ridiculous,” remarked one Senatobia resident Tuesday. “I have two boys and that’s how I potty trained them.”

Another Senatobia mother told FOX13 that she believes police are focusing on non-issues.

“I think we should be focusing on things that are more important,” Patricia Mitchell said. “There’s bigger issues to be concerned about than a 10-year-old urinating in public.”

“He did not expose himself,” said Carlos Moore, the child’s attorney. “There were no public restrooms available, so he used the one behind a car.” Discreetly.”

Previously, the youngster informed FOX13 that he was being confined in a detention cell. He was eventually charged with neglect of a child and released to his mother.

Following the arrest, Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler announced that one of the policemen had been fired and that numerous other officers would face disciplinary action.

“We made a mistake in transporting the child to the police station because the mother was present at the time as a reasonable alternative,” Chief Chandler remarked after the event. “Mistakes like this are a reminder in this profession as to the continual need for training and refreshers on the various topics that we encounter each day.”
