A job-connection site called LinkedIn says that the number of people beginning their own businesses is growing the fastest in Atlanta, US. Its research showed that the area around Atlanta was the best in the US for new businesses starting up recently.
LinkedIn ranked US cities by how many more people added new founder roles to their profiles from June to August 2023 than during the same time in 2022. CNBC said that the number of people in Atlanta who said on their LinkedIn page that they started a business had grown by 92%. After Atlanta came Austin, then Seattle, then San Francisco, and finally Chicago. Massachusetts, Florida, New York City, Los Angeles, and Denver made up the other nine cities in the top 10.
The Kauffman Foundation has found that more people now want to start their own business. “The disruption of normal work schedules in 2020 during the early stages of the COVID pandemic may have made people want to run their own show again,” George Anders, editor-at-large of LinkedIn, wrote.
There are about 6.2 million people living in the Atlanta metro area, which is more than 8,500 square miles, and about 500,000 people live in Atlanta city. A lot of big US companies are based in Atlanta, like CNN, Delta Air Lines, Coca-Cola, the Home Depot, and UPS. In the past few years, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Visa have all opened offices in the city as it tries to become a tech hub. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta is the largest airport in the world. According to the Airports Council International, 93.7 million people used it in 2022.
Anders from LinkedIn said that the city of Georgia is “enjoying a new dynamism that’s enticing lots of would-be entrepreneurs to start their businesses here.” In its annual list, the National Association of Realtors named the Atlanta metro area the best market to watch in 2023. They did this by stating the area’s low prices, “robust” job market, and migration. A little less than the national average, unemployment is low in the metro area, and about two-thirds more people in the city aged 25 and up have a bachelor’s degree or higher than the national average.
