AJ Armstrong Latest Interview from Texas Prison: ‘This is not how my story ends’

ABILENE, Texas – Antonio Armstrong Jr. talks about his conviction for the first time in an exclusive jailhouse interview with KPRC 2 reporter Rilwan Balogun and KPRC 2 Investigates director Jason Nguyen. This comes four months after he was found guilty of killing his parents.

Balogun and Nguyen have been covering the Armstrong case for Houston in a big way. Since May, when jury selection for Armstrong’s third capital murder trial began, they have reported on a number of important events. During the trial, they also gave you behind-the-scenes looks at the proceedings through a multi-platform news experience they called “The Bench.”

Armstrong was given a life sentence in jail with the chance of parole after 40 years in August for killing his parents, Dawn and Antonio Sr., in their home in southwest Houston in 2016.

The married 23-year-old father of one is now getting used to his new home in the Robertson Unit in Abilene, Texas, which is west of Dallas. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice gave KPRC two hours with Armstrong. He sat behind a glass wall, away from our crew.

Nobody was afraid to ask Armstrong anything. He was honest about the night of the murder, his third trial and conviction, his family, and what will happen next with his appeal.

Armstrong told KPRC 2 that his faith is what keeps him going, even though he has a long way to go.

He said, “This is not how my story ends.”
