It’s great that a city has nice services, good schools, and a lower housing market, but it’s also important that people feel like they belong in the city. Caring about other people’s health and happiness is one way to connect with them. This can be done in a number of ways, such as by giving money to charities or working at local groups.
WalletHub just put out a new list of the “most caring cities” in the United States. If you’re looking for a friendly place to live, this is it. Here’s how the experts put together their 2024 rankings:
“To find the places that care the most, WalletHub looked at 38 key indicators of a caring spirit in the 100 biggest cities.” Our set of data includes things like the percentage of homeless people who are housed, the number of hours each person volunteers, and the percentage of income that is given to charity.
It was placed in the top 20! At No. 16, the well-known city got the best marks for “Caring for the Vulnerable.” In this group were measurements such as the percentage of poor children and adults, the percentage of people who are adopted, the number of treatment centers, pet shelters, and rescue services, the percentage of homeless people who are housed, and more.
The study found these to be the 10 most caring places in the United States:
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Virginia Beach, Virginia
- New York, New York
- San Diego, California
- Chesapeake, Virginia
- Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Fremont, California
- Portland, Oregon
- Scottsdale, Arizona
